Coronavirus Update

News
Tuesday, 24 March 2020

In light of the Prime Minister’s statement of 23 March 2020 and ongoing announcements from the Scottish Courts Administration the situation in respect of the Criminal Justice System is becoming a little clearer, albeit subject to change.  As matters stand it would seem that all court cases other than the most urgent (such as custody matters) will be adjourned to a future date around August/September 2020.

It is our view that in those circumstances clients who, in normal circumstances, would be expected to attend Court in respect of their cases are no longer required to attend.  It remains unclear as to whether the solicitor requires to be present however we will attend to that matter ourselves.

Clearly the kind of activity and work that we as a firm help with will be curtailed while the general lockdown is in place, but myself and my colleagues will remain available to help with advice to clients. The solicitors and administration colleagues will work from home, where possible, however it may be possible to arrange meetings at our offices on a very limited basis.  We would ask those seeking advice to initially make contact either by telephone or via our website enquiry desk and we will get back to you.  It may take a little longer than normal however please be assured that we are all doing our best to work in what are undoubtedly difficult circumstances.

Stay safe everyone.
